The Challenge

Returning to a long-standing pool more than three decades later

This outdoor swimming pool on the outskirts of Winchester was originally built by Harlequin Pools in March 1989. The 32′ x 16′ liner pool featured fibreglass panel construction, a diving board, a square-ended GRP step unit and simulated York stone paving. Harlequin continued to maintain the pool through several changes of ownership, including replacing the liner in 2010.

By September 2025, the current owners wanted to modernise the pool while preserving its original character. The brief was to improve safety and refresh the interior, retaining the existing plant, heating, depth and overall layout.

The Transformation

Carefully updating the pool while preserving its character

The refurbishment began with the removal of the original GRP step unit, replaced by a new three-tread step with a custom seat. The walls and floor were repaired and prepared for a Vogue Prestige on-site liner, while the in-wall fittings were renewed. A new cover pit was also constructed to accommodate a navy blue Aquamatic automatic safety cover.

New copings were installed around the pool edge, while the original paving and pointing were retained where still sound. The diving board was also reinstated, preserving one of the pool’s defining original features.
