The Challenge

A refined swimming pool and leisure space designed to suit a period property

This new build swimming pool was created for a property in a small village west of Winchester. The brief was to deliver a high-quality outdoor pool that would sit comfortably within the setting of a period home while integrating with wider building and landscaping works.

The pool formed part of a complete leisure area, with the pool, pool house, paving, planting and surrounding garden all needing to work together. Harlequin built the base for the pool house, which was completed by the building contractors, and worked closely with them throughout the project. The middle-terrace site, steep access and exceptionally wet winter added further logistical challenges.

The Transformation

Crafted with timeless materials

The pool measures approximately 5m x 11.3m, with a depth ranging from 1.3m to 2m. It was built in concrete and finished with Tresor Bali large format tiles, creating a refined, architectural appearance. A bespoke quadrant step provides elegant access while complementing the tiled finish.

Heavy hand-cut York stone copings and matching York stone paving were selected to suit the character of the property and help the pool feel established within the garden. The specification also included a dark grey Aquamatic automatic cover with concealed detailing, a Pro-Pac 22 heat pump, automatic cleaner and five Adagio EVA pool lights.
